Pfc. Arnold J. Vermeer arrived at the parental Jake E. Vermeer home last Saturday evening to spend a 21-day furlough. He has been stationed at Camp Swift, Texas, where he has been in the hospital for the last four months receiving care for an injured leg.

Arnold James “Arnie" Vermeer was born Feb. 15, 1922 to Jacob E. and Henrietta Nyman Vermeer. He died July 16, 2010 and is buried in Memory Gardens Sioux Center Cemetery, Sioux Center, IA.
Sgt. Vermeer served in World War II with the U.S. Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant while stationed on the Island of Saipan.
