One Waterloo Man Killed,
Two Missing
One Waterloo man was reported killed in action and two were added to the list of missing, in messages received by relatives Thursday.
Killed was Staff Sgt. Norman L. Venter, 24, while Maj. Eugene Seaburn, 30, and Emmette Lynn Wilson, 25, machinist’s mate first class, were missing.
Sergeant Venter, was killed in action Apr. 9 in Germany.
The message was received here by his mother, Mrs. Corella Hansen, of Dixon, Ill, while she was visiting in the home of her sisters, Mrs. E. P. Tegmeier, 2112 West Seventh street, from Sergeant Venter’s wife and daughter, Barbara, who reside in Cedar Rapids, Ia.
Born May 18, 1920, in Waterloo, the son of Christian and Corella Venter, he attended Immanuel Lutheran school and church until the family moved to Dixon.
His brother, Staff Sgt. Robert M. Venter, 20, was killed in action Aug. 30, 1944, while serving in Italy. A sister, Marcella, was killed accidentally 10 years ago, and his father died Apr. 14 this year in Fargo, N. D.
Surviving besides his mother, wife and daughter, is one sister, Mrs. Elwood Cruse, of Dixon, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. L. Blanche Whitson, Casebeer Heights.

Sgt. Robert M. Venter died Aug. 30, 1944 and is buried in Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy. Sgt. Venter served in World War II with the 349th Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
