Reporter Called to Army Service
Second Lieut. John E. van der Linden, Globe-Gazette reporter, Saturday received orders for active duty with the army. Lieutenant van der Linden will report Monday at Fort Des Moines for his final type physical examination, following which he will be sent to permanent station at San Luis Obispo, Cal, to serve with the field artillery in the 40th infantry division. A reserve officer in the field artillery, Lieutenant van der Linden received his training in the R. O. T. C. course at Iowa State college [present-day Iowa State University], Ames, and also spent three years in the 185th field artillery, Iowa national guard.
