MARINE KILLED IN IWO BATTLE
Cpl. Leonard Trudo of Elk Point, Former Sioux Cityan, Dies
Cpl. Leonard F. Trudo, 18, a former resident of Sioux City and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Trudo, farmers near Elk Point, S. D., was killed on Iwo Jima on February 24, the parents were informed by the war department.
Cpl. Trudo entered the marines in November, 1943, and went overseas January 1, 1944. He was serving with the Fourth marines and took part in the Marshall islands, Rio Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima campaigns.
Word of his death was received Tuesday on his 18th birthday. He lived with his parents in Sioux City and attended East Junior school. Mr. and Mrs. Trudo moved to a farm near Elk Point three years ago.
Surviving in addition to the parents are a sister, Mrs. Noral Quam of near Elk Point and two brothers, Norman and Ronald at home.
Cpl. Trudo's unit had received the presidential citation for action at Saipan.

MEMORIAL RITES TO BE THURSDAY
Memorial services for Cpl. Leonard F. Trudo, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Trudo of Elk Point, former Sioux City residents, will be held 9:30 o’clock Thursday morning in St. Joseph’s Catholic church. Rev. J. J. O’Brien will officiate. Cpl. Trudo, United States Marine Corps, was killed in action on Iwo Jima February 24.

Leonard Francis Trudo was born Mar. 13, 1927 to Clifford Oscar and Celia Alice Chartier Trudo. He died Feb. 24, 1945 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
