WAVE OF THE DAY

Irene Teel Sherbern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcellus Teel of Columbus Junction, has enlisted in the WAVES and will leave sometime in November to attend the U.S. Naval Training school, Bronx, N.Y. She is the wife of Pvt. Kenneth M. Sherbern, who is stationed with the mechanized cavalry in France and has been employed at the First Trust & Saving bank. She resides with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cohn, 208 McClellen boulevard.

Seaman Sherbern is the third member of her family to enter service. A brother, also of the navy is Randall Teel, seaman, first class, stationed in the South Pacific. Pvt. Glenn Teel is a prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines.

In preparation for her naval service, Mrs. Sherbern has been doing volunteer work for the naval medical department at St. Ambrose college.

BATTLE CASUALTIES SADDEN MORE HOMES

PFC. GLEN TEEL—Pfc. Glen Teel of Columbus Junction advised his mother, Mrs. W. S. Teel, at Columbus Junction in August, 1944, that he was being held as a prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippine Islands. He was in service in the islands when they were captured by the Japanese.

HEARS FROM SON.
Mrs. Marcellus Teel received a card Friday from her son, PFC Glen Eugene Teel, who has been a prisoner of the Japanese on the Phillipine Islands the last three years.

The message on a card on which certain items were printed and concerning health he had underscored good. Then this message was typed: “Dear Mother and All: Just a line to let you know about my health. I received your nice package. I was well pleased. Best wishes to all. Love, Glen” The card was then signed in what seemed to be his own handwriting.

This was the third card Mrs. Teel has received in the three years. The last one last summer. The package mentioned in the card received Friday by Mrs. Teel, was mailed to him on the Gripsholm in September, 1943.

RECEIVED PACKAGES
On Jan. 12, Mrs. Marcellus Teel of Columbus Junction received a postcard from her son, Pfc. Glen Eugene Teel, who is a prisoner of the Japanese on the Philippines. The card was a form card with various items to be underscored and carried a short typewritten message at the close. He mentioned receiving a package which had been mailed to him on the Gripsholm in September, 1943. This was the third message Mrs. Teel had received in the three years her son has been held by the Japanese.

NOTE: Glen Eugene Teel of Columbus Junction - Pfc Army - Killed in Action Dec. 14, 1944. He had been a prisoner of the Japanese since 1942 after being captured at Camp Mills on Corregidor.

Glen Eugene Teel was born Oct. 31, 1916 to Marcellus and Laura Mae Thompson Teel. He died Dec. 14, 1944 and is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, MO.
