Pvt. Leonard Swanson

 

MEETS OLD FRIEND IN ARMY HOSPTIAL IN SOUTHWEST PACIFIC

Martin Swanson recently received word that his son, Pvt. Leonard Swanson, an infantryman, was wounded on a South Pacific island. From the combat area he was sent to the 373rd Station Hospital in the Marianas, where his good friend and classmate, Sgt. Henry C. Anderson, a surgical technician, cared for him. The boys had not seen each other for three years.

More recent word states that Leonard is on his way back to the States for further hospitalization. Both boys are former residents here. Sgt. Anderson’s wife and Leonard are cousins. Mrs. Ruth Anderson is a teacher in district No. 4 of this township. Pvt. Swanson’s wife and son, Larry Dean, live in Denver, Colo.

Leonard Richard Swanson was born July 7, 1921 to Martin and Sadie Johnson Swanson. He died Sept. 10, 2001 and is buried in Jerome Township Cemetery, Jerome, OH. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
