Learns Son Is Killed in Germany
Mrs. Lorna McKeown has received word that her son, T. Sgt. Jack L. Swanson was killed in action in Germany.
Sgt. Swanson had been in Germany only a short time and was serving with the 7th army.
He is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Swanson, and Mrs. Chris Clauson; three aunts, Mrs. Olga Mahony, Mrs. Violet Casey, and Mrs. Rose Martin.

RETURN BODIES OF 5 COUNTY SOLDIERS
20 Southwest Iowans on Carroll Victory
Bodies of 20 southwest Iowans, including five from Pottawattamie county, have been returned to the United States from Europe aboard the army transport Carroll Victory, the department of the army announced Wednesday.
Three of the county soldiers are from Council Bluffs. They are Maj. John Robert Blaylock, son of County Auditor John F. Blaylock; Cpl. Elmer Reynolds, son of Mrs. Alice P. Carroll, 1223 Twenty-first avenue; and 2nd Lt. James J. Friend, son of Mr. and Mrs. James O. Friend, 902 Avenue F.
Other County Soldiers.
The other two county soldiers are Tech. 4/g Jack L. Swanson, son of Mrs. Leorna McKeown, route 1, Honey Creek, and Tech. 4/g James M. Waters, son of William H. Waters of Neola.
Sgt. Swanson was killed in Germany on April 16, 1945. He had been serving with the 7th army. He was a graduate of Missouri Valley high school.
Surviving are his mother; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Swanson and Mrs. Chris Clawson of Council Bluffs; three aunts, Mrs. Olga Mayberry of Omaha, Mrs. Violet Corey of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Rose Martin of St. Louis, Mo.; and two uncles, Eugene Woods of Loveland and Carl W. Swanson of New York city.

Sgt. Jack Leonard Swanson was born Nov. 5, 1923 to Hugo and Lorna Belle Wood Swanson. He died Apr. 16, 1945 and is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA.
