Robert Warren Steig was born 17 October 1922, in Pocahontas Co., Iowa, to Walter and Rebecca (Wilson) Steig. Attended school at Correctionville and graduating from Storm Lake, May 1943. Siblings are DeWitt, Walter J., and Norma.
Drafted after high school, trained at Farragut Idaho. Attended Radio School in San Francisco. Sent overseas, October 1943. Stationed at Leyte in the Philippine Islands. Served September 1943 until April 1946. Discharged at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Illinois.
Was a Ship Fitter - 3rd class metal smith. Did not have leave, except short time after boot camp.
Vessels and stations served on NTSTA Farragut, Idaho; NTSCH. (Radio) USS Dispatch, San Francisco, Calif.; Comm. School Phib. Traing Pac.; NTS, San Diego, Calif.; Landing Craft School (RAC); USNABPD San Bruno, Calif.; Acorn Assembly and training detach. Port Hueneme, Calif.; Naval Station Navy 3149; USN Shore Facilities, Navy 3964.
Warren was Honorably discharged at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Illinois, 11 April 1946. He received enough points to go home.
Received American Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Rbbon.
Married Frances Straight, 29 March 1946, Storm Lake, Iowa. Our children are Roxanne Tjaden, Roger, and Russell. We have eight grandchildren. They are Elizabeth & Ben Tjaden, Ryan, Reginald, Rachel and Rebecca Steig, McKinley and Evan Steig.
Enjoy Gardening, furniture refinishing, travel and family activities. Am a member of AmVets and the American Legion. Made my living after the war in the Grocery and related retail businesses.

Robert Warren Steig died Oct. 5, 2002 and is buried in Buena Vista Memorial Park, Storm Lake, IA.
