Ernest J. Solomon, Pfc., is again with his engineer unit in Italy. He has been overseas twenty months and in Italy three months before being sent to a hospital in North Africa, January 18th. He was there five weeks but did not say why nor whether he has been in any fighting.

Obituary:
Ernest Solomon, 34, of Jefferson, South Dakota, passed away Tuesday, November 4th at his home at 1621 Hamilton street after a long illness.

Mr. Solomon was born on October 27, 1918 in Hancock township, Plymouth county. He entered the armed services May 27, 1942.  He was with the 344th engineer regiment in England and North Africa at hospital and supply depots.  He served in Italy when he built roads and bridges in fighting zones near Naples and Foggia.  He was awarded the bronze star while in Italy.

Mr. Solomon was hospitalized in January and February 1944.  He returned to the United States and was discharged from the Army November 8, 1945.

He married Miss Dessie (Diana) Pauline Kimsey November 21, 1945. They were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include the widow; two brothers, Emmet of Sioux City; and Charles, of Merrill; a sister, Mrs. Chester Raby of Merrill; and his father, Charley Solomon of Westfield, Ia.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran church, with Rev. Walter Voss officiating.  Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, under direction of the W. Harry Christy funeral home, 711 Myrtle street. Graveside rites will be conducted by Monahan post, American Legion.

Pallbearers will be Charles Solomon, Orville Solomon, Darwin Solomon, James McCleaine, John Matthews and Richard Basley.
