A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith of Carson at the hospital in Council Bluffs. Mr. Smith is in the service.

CARSON – Pvt. Eugene Smith, son of Mrs. Lola Smith of Carson, was killed in action on Okinawa May 14, according to work received from the war department. His wife and infant son, Jimmie Eugene, and a sister, Mrs. Harold Spohn of Battle Creek, Mich, and his mother survive.

RETURN OF WAR DEAD FOR BURIAL

Bodies From Pacific Area Arrive In U. S.

2,012 war dead are being returned to the United States from the Pacific area aboard the army transport Sgt. Jack J. Pendleton, the department of the army announced Tuesday.

[Among those] returned is Pfc. Eugene M. Smith, husband of Mrs. Clara J. Smith of Carson. He was the son of Mrs. Lola Smith. He attended Carson schools before entering the army. He was killed in action on Okinawa May 14, 1945.

Survivors are the widow, one son, Jimmie Eugene, his mother and one sister. The body will come to McKee funeral home at Carson.

Pfc. Eugene M. Smith

CARSON – Funeral services will be held at the Carson Presbyterian church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for Pfc. Eugene M. Smith, returned war dead. The Rev. Ivo G. Randells will officiate. Carson American Legion post 556 will be in charge of graveside rites. The body will arrive Friday night at the McKee funeral home in Carson.
