Killed In Italy November 13th
AMONG FIRST IN COUNTY TO ENTER SERVICE
With Commando Forces In North Africa
Another Adams county boy, Cpl. Roy Slezak, has given his life in defense of his country, according to information received from the War Department Monday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Slezak, of Nevinville. According to the War Department, Cpl. Slezak was killed in action in Italy on November 13. This brings to twelve the number of Adams county boys who have been killed in World War II.
Aged 24 Years
Cpl. Slezak was 24 years old and before entering the service spent most of his life in the vicinity of Nevinville and Williamson. He was among the first Adams county men to be called into service and went overseas in April, 1942. He was in combat both in the African and Sicilian campaigns and at the time served with the Commando troops.
Cpl. Slezek’s twin brother, Ray, is now in service in the Army Air Corps and another brother, Ivan, is employed at the Bell Aircraft Company in Buffalo, New York.

News From Nevinville
Memorial services were held at the Williamson hall Sunday afternoon for Cpl. Roy J. Slezak, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Slezak, who was killed in action in Italy on last November 13. The service was conducted by the American Legion and was attended by a large crowd. Roy grew up in the Williamson community and had been in the army for over two years before his death.

Roy Joseph Slezak was born June 10, 1919 to George James and Caroline Blanche Kralik Slezak. He died Nov. 13, 1943 and is buried in Bohemian National Cemetery, Williamson, IA.
Cpl. Slezak served in World War II with the U.S. Army in the African and Sicilian campaigns.
