YOUTHS IN MITCHELL COUNTY ARE DRAFTED
OSAGE—Tony Valasck, Marvin Cowell, both of Osage; Francis Keimermann, Carl Klapperich, Francis Brumm, all of Stacyville; and Harley Slaichert of St. Ansgar have been sent to Fort Des Moines for their physical examinations prior to being sent for induction into the United States Army. Burton T. Hartnell, who was inducted into the Army Dec. 1, has been sent to Camp Lee, Virginia, where he will receive training in the medical replacement center.

To Hold Memorial Rites for Harley Slaichert
ST. ANSGAR—Memorial services for Pfc. Harley Slaichert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slaichert of St. Ansgar, were to be conducted Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. W. F. Belling was to officiate, assisted by members of the Walter E. Enneberg post of the American Legion. Slaichert was killed in action in New Guinea Dec. 6, 1942.

BODIES OF IOWA VETS RETURNED
North Iowans Among Yanks on Transport
Remains of 4,459 Americans who lost their lives during World War II are being returned to San Francisco from Manila aboard the United States Army Transport Lt. George W. G. Boyce, the department of the army announced Monday.
Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands are among those being brought to this country.
A total of 110 remains are being returned upon instructions of next of kin residing in Iowa.

Pfc. Harley G. Slaichert, St. Ansgar.

Harley George Slaichert was born Dec. 27, 1919 to Joseph Jacob and Anna Mary Koliaryk Slaichert. He died Dec. 6, 1942 and is buried in Saint Ansgar City Cemetery, Saint Ansgar, IA.
Pvt. Slaichert served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was KIA in defense of his country in the Southwest Pacific Area.
