Calvin Lewis Servis was born 30 November 1916 in Correctionville, to Elza and Lulu (Fixsel) Servis. Attended school in the Anthon area. Siblings are Gene, Shirley Hart, Richard, Maxine Sands, and Shirley Clark.
Entered the service 21 June 1944. Trained at Fort Louis, Washington and Camp Pendelton, California. Left for the European theater, November 1944. Stationed Frankfort, Germany with the 97th General Hospital. Discharged Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
Married Mary Ellen Gilman, 21 June 1938, at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua, Iowa. They have two sons, Richard and Gary, three grandchildren, Scott, Monica, and Carrie, and six great grandchildren, Madison, Ashley, Milayshia, Matayiam, C.J. and Trinity.
Retired in 1972 as an agent for the Standard Oil Company. Moved to Smithland in 9 June 1939 to take this job. Served on the school board and the Town Council and the fire department while living in Smithland. Was a 50 year plus member of Leslie Seaton American Legion Post 666, in
Smithland. He was Past Amicable Lodge A F & A M, at Smithland, Past Patron Evergreen Chapter, order of Eastern Star of Smithland, 50 year member of Sioux City Consistory and Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City.
