Leslie F. Seaton Is Missing, Parents Are Informed by Navy
Leslie Frederick Seaton, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva J. Seaton, 4003 Correctionville Road, has been “lost at sea” while serving with the navy. Word of the loss was received today by the parents in a telegram from the navy department. No details were given.
Seaton enlisted in the navy in Sioux City in December 1940. The family had lived at Smithland for more than 18 years where their son was born. They came to Sioux City last November.
Two other sons also are in the navy. They are Chris, now stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas who returned to his station this week after a furlough and Willis who is in training at San Diego. Willis enlisted last January 29 and Chris, last January 5.

Paul L. Seaton, carpenter’s mate third class, has returned after 25 months in the Asiatic-Pacific theater to tell his father about Navy life. His father, Alva J. Seaton, who enlisted in the Navy with him in September 1942, and who took his boot training with him, was medically discharged after five months in service. The parents reside at 4003 Correctionville road. Two brothers, Willis Wayne Seaton and Chris J. Seaton, also are in the Navy. They are boatswain’s mates second class. Willis is on submarine duty, and Chris is at Tarawa. Paul and Wayne met in Hawaii in November, 1943, for the first time in three years, and have not seen each other since. Another brother, Leslie Frederick Seaton, was a seaman first class, who was reported missing in action February 18, 1942. He was on the U.S.S. Houston.

Leslie F. Seaton was born Apr. 11, 1923 to Alva James and Effie Marie Clark Seaton. He died Mar. 1, 1942/FOD Dec. 15, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Petty Officer Seaton served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Houston (CA-30) and was MIA/KIA/FOD when that vessel sank in the Battle of Sunda Strait. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
