Bob Saunders Is Killed in Action
Robert William Saunders, ships’ cook 2/c, died in action somewhere in England, according to word received here by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Saunders, 116 ½ West Broadway. The official notification, received by his parents from the war department, did not reveal either the time or cause of Saunder’s death.
In the navy two years, he had been stationed in England since December, 1943. Prior to being transferred to England, he was stationed in Africa, Italy and other European theaters of war for 10 months.
He attended Abraham Lincoln high school and was employed at Gabler’s bakery prior to entering the service.

Obituaries
Body of Saunders to Be Returned
The body of Ship’s Cook 2/c Robert William Saunders, 20, who was killed in action June 6, 1944, on the coast of Normandy, will arrive in Council Bluffs Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Tyler-Rusch chapel with Dr. Leon C. Hills officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery with military rites at the grave conducted by the V. F. W.
