Two Former Waterloo Men Killed
Two former Waterloo men were reported killed in action according to word received yesterday by their respective parents.
They are:
Staff Sgt. Warren C. Jensen, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jensen, New Hartford, Ia., killed Jan. 2 on Leyte island in the Philippines.
Pfc. John Clayton Roberts, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roberts, near Dike, Ia., killed in France Feb. 3.
Private Roberts, serving with the army engineers with the Seventh army in France had been in armed service since Jan. 9, 1943.
He was employed in the offices of Rath Packing Co. here before entering service.
Born June 24, 1922, near Dike, Ia., he graduated from Dike high school in 1939 with highest scholastic honors.
He received basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., engineering at Carnegie Tech, Pittsburgh, Pa., Xavier college, Columbus, O., and Camp Breckenridge, Ky. He left for overseas duty in October, 1944.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church, Cedar Falls, Ia.
Surviving are his parents, one brother, William, at home, and a sister, Ruth, a student cadet nurse training at Allen Memorial hospital here.

Bodies of 5 Waterloo Men Back in U. S.
The bodies of five fallen Waterloo soldiers, one from Cedar Falls and six from other northeast Iowa towns have been returned to the United States, the war department said Wednesday.
Included in the long list of 7, 572 Americans returned to their home soil for reburial were these five Waterloo men: Pfc. Arvine E. Benedict, 1526 West Fourth street; Pfc. Carl J. Demuth, 820 Wellington street; Tech. 5th Gr. Raymond L. Larsen, 1008 West Second street; Pvt. Clarence R. Leaman, 203 East Thompson avenue; and Pvt. Percy F. Stevens, 101 Front street.
The list also included names of Pfc. John C. Roberts, Route 1, Cedar Falls.
The bodies were returned aboard the United States army transport, Carroll Victory, the war department said.
Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in France, Belgium and Holland are among those brought back to this country. There were 135 from Iowa.
The army stated that each next of kin was notified in advance of arrival of the vessel, and would be notified again after arrival of the remains at the regional distribution centers of the American graves registration service.

John C. Roberts Rites Saturday
at Cedar Falls
Cedar Falls – Final rites for John C. Roberts, whose body was returned here from overseas for reburial, will be held at the Dahl funeral home at 2 p. m. Saturday. Rev. G. E. Melchert of Waterloo will conduct the service.
Burial will be in Fairfield cemetery, five miles west of Cedar Falls on the Twelfth street road.
