Donald J. Reilly, A/C, Class 44-E, Sqn. 7, Cadet Det., Ft. Sumner, New Mex., has been taking pilot training at Oshkosh, Wis., Chico, Cal., Santa Ana, Cal., Oxnard, Calif., and now is training as a pilot of twin engined medium bomber.

NEWS OF THE BOYS IN THE SERVICE

Second Lt. Donald Reilly, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Reilly of Merrill, has been awarded an oak leaf cluster to his air medal for “meritorious achievement” while serving as a B-17 Flying Fortress co-pilot in the 401st bombardment group, according to a news release from an Eighth air force bomber station in England.

Donald James Reilly was born Feb. 16, 1923 to Charles Bernard and Edith Eleanor Sargisson Reilly. He died Oct. 27, 2002 and is buried in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Merrill, IA.
