ARRIVES AT SAN MARCOS

George H. Pogge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert J. Pogge, 3535 Avenue D, has arrived at San Marcos, Tex., for a course in army air forces navigation.

Spending Leave With Parents Here

George H. Pogge has been graduated from the army air base at San Marcos, Tex., as a second lieutenant, awarded his wings and is spending a delayed order leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert J. Pogge, 3535 Avenue D.

On Tuesday he will report to the bombardier school at an air base in New Mexico for bombardier training.

A graduate of Abraham Lincoln high school in 1940, he enlisted in the air corps reserve 14 months ago and was a student at Creighton university at the time of his enlistment.

NAVIGATOR

Lt. George H. Pogge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert P. Pogge, 3535 Avenue D., Council Bluffs, is completing his training on a Liberator bomber at Pueblo army air base. He is the navigator on his crew, and is expected to serve overseas soon. Lt. Pogge entered the service Feb. 22, 1943.

MISSING

Lt. George Pogge, 21, navigator on a Liberator, is missing in action over Germany as of Aug. 26, according to word received here by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Pogge, 3535 Avenue D. Lt. Pogge, a native of Neola, was graduated from Abraham Lincoln high school in 1940, and was a Creighton university law student before entering the service. He arrived in England in July, 1944.

ON SOLDIER’S WILL

Hearing to admit will of George H. Pogge, killed in action in Germany on Aug. 26, 1944, was set Tuesday for July 24 at 9:30 a. m. in district court here.

Bodies of 10 War Dead to Be Returned

The bodies of two Council Bluffs servicemen will be returned here for burial from Europe aboard the United States army transport Haiti Victory, the department of the army announced Saturday. They are 1st Lt. Meredith Carter and 2nd Lt. George H. Pogge. Eight southwest Iowa men will be returned at the same time.

Lt. Pogge was killed in action over Germany while serving as navigator on a Liberator. He was reported missing August 26, 1944, as dead on March 10, 1945.

Enlisting in the reserves July 9, 1942, he was called February 22, 1943. He received his commission in April, 1944.

Lt. Pogge was graduated from Abraham Lincoln high school in 1940 and was attending Creighton university law school at the time of his enlistment.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert J. Pogge and a sister, Dorothy, living at 3535 Avenue D.

Beem-Belford funeral home will have charge of arrangements.

Funerals

The body of 2nd Lt. George H. Pogge, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert J. Pogge of 3535 Avenue D, will arrive in Council Bluffs Wednesday morning.

Lt. Pogge was killed in action over Germany August 26, 1944.

Requiem mass will be celebrated at Holy Family church Thursday at 9 a. m. American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2 will conduct military rites at the grave in St. Joseph’s cemetery. Beem-Belford funeral home is in charge.
