London--(U.P.)--Lt. S. W. Peterson of Ringsted, Ia., piloted the “Liberty Belle,” one of the Marauder bombers which bombed the huge Bethune chemical plant in northern France Tuesday.

Lt. Sidney Peterson Downed Over France
Ringsted—First Lt. Sidney W. Peterson, former Ringsted boy now in the air corps stationed in England, has been reported missing, according to word received by his father, Joe S. Peterson, of Fairmont, Minn.
Lt. Peterson had been awarded the air medal, the oak leaf cluster and the distinguished flying cross. He had completed 63 missions over enemy territory before he was missing in action over France.
He was born and reared in Ringsted, Iowa, but was employed in Chicago at the time war broke out. He enlisted in January, 1942, and has been overseas since April, 1943. He has 2 brothers in the service.

Lt. Peterson Makes Supreme Sacrifice
Ringsted---Memorial services were held Wednesday in the Presbyterian Church for 1st Lt. Sidney W. Peterson, who was killed in action near Paris, France, May 28, 1944, while on his 60th mission. He was a member of the 9th air force.
The services were conducted by the Rev. W. O. Harper, pastor. Services were sponsored by the Ringsted American Legion post.
Lt. Peterson was born in Ringsted, Iowa, Nov. 30, 1919. He was a graduate of Ringsted high school.
He was awarded 10 oak leaf clusters, air medal and distinguished flying cross.
The following members of his family attended the services here. His father, Joe S. Peterson of Fairmont, Minn.; his mother, Mrs. Marthilda Peterson of Chicago; 2 sisters, Mrs. Inez Marie Stark, of Chicago and Mildred J. Peterson, student at Iowa State College; and his 2 older brothers, James M. Peterson of the Navy, and George H. Peterson, of the Army.
