Killed in Asiatic Area
SHENANDOAH—The first casualty among the hundreds of soldiers from Shenandoah has been announced following the receipt of a notice from the War Department of the death in the Asiatic area of Cpl. Oscar Densel Peterson, 35, son of Mrs. Anna Peterson. Cpl. Peterson had been overseas since September and was believed to have been in India at the time of his death. No details were given. Previous casualties here were all in the Navy or were aviators, who had formerly lived here.

SHENANDOAH—At least one Shenandoah mother has started arrangements to have her son’s body returned from overseas.
She is Mrs. Anna H. Peterson, whose son is buried at Chabua, Assam, India, where he was killed in a plane crash Jan. 2, 1944. Cpl. Oscar D. Peterson is buried in a cemetery there.
Mrs. Peterson has written the national headquarters of the American War Dads, Kansas City, Mo., for information.

S.W. Iowa War Dead Returned for Burial
Three southwest Iowa war dead have been returned to the United States from the Pacific area aboard the United States Army transport, Dalton Victory, the department of the army announced Sunday.
The army said next of kin were notified in advance of the arrival of the ship and would be notified again after arrival of the remains at regional distribution centers. Thirty-four Iowans were aboard the Dalton Victory.
Southwest Iowans with their next of kin: Sgt. Raymond E. Bartlett, marines; Mrs. Lena M. Bartlett of Denison. 2nd Lt. Richard E. Mallette, air forces; Frank G. Mallette of Atlantic. Cpl. Oscar D. Peterson, army; Mrs. Anna M. Peterson of Shenandoah.
