MISSING IN FRANCE
Pfc. Paul Dean Newell has been missing in action since Jan. 21 in France according to a telegram received here yesterday. He is the son of Mrs. Helen M. Stenby, 229 West State.
Pfc. Newell was employed by the Waterloo Courier at the time of entering the service. He attended grade school in Mason City and was graduated from the Orange consolidated high school near Waterloo. He has 2 brothers in service, Walter, a prisoner of war of the Japs, and Ross, at Yuma, Ariz., with the army air corps.

3 Waterloo Nazi Captives Are Liberated
Three more Waterloo soldiers who were captured by the Germans during the winter offensive have been liberated from prison camps, bringing this city’s total releases to five for that theater of operations.
Reported Friday as liberated from the interment camps by on-rushing forces of the American Army were:
Pvt. Donald Andreassen, 25, of 844 Fowler street.
Pvt. Robert Sackett, 32, of 1010 Randolph street.
Pfc. Paul Dean Newell, 19, of 516 West Fifth street.
Private Newell, who was listed as missing in action in France since Jan. 21, was separated from his unit, Jan. 19, captured by the Germans Jan. 24, and liberated by American forces April 2, in Germany.
Second former Waterloo Daily Courier employee to be listed as missing and a German prisoner of war. Private Newell had been serving overseas since October, 1944. He entered service in May, 1943. Ted Adams, the other Courier employee reported missing is held prisoner by the Germans.
Newell’s mother, Mrs. Carl Stenby, resides in Mason City, Ia.
