NEWS of the BOYS in the SERVICE  

Vernon C. Nelle has recently arrived at the Army Air Forces school at Big Springs, Texas, for training as a bombardier cadet.  His wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nelle live at 500 First Ave., SE, in LeMars.  He is a graduate of Central high school at LeMars, and his civilian occupation was assistant manager of the E. F. Nelle Lumber and Coal Co. in LeMars.  He is talented in music and traveled as bass horn player with a band for five years.  Upon the satisfactory completion of this highly specialized course, he will receive his appointment as an officer in the Army Air Forces and his wings as a Bombardier.

NEWS of the BOYS in the SERVICE

Vernon C. Nelle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelle of LeMars, was graduated last week as a bombardier (flight officer) from the Big Spring Bombardier Quadrangle School at Midland, Texas. The men studied camouflage, learned navigation and were trained in many other phases of aerial combat as well as taught precision bombing.

Vernon Charles Nelle was born Nov. 30, 1918 to Edward Frank and Carrie Iwerks Nelle. He died July 25, 2005 and is buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA. 1st Lt. Nelle served in World War II and Korea.
