MUNCHRATH IS AWARDED DFC
Flight Officer Francis F. Munchrath, veteran of 18 months service with the army transport command in the China-Burma-India theater of war, has been awarded the distinguished flying cross, an Associated Press dispatch reveled Wednesday.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Munchrath, Star route, he returned to the United States in July and is now stationed with the transport command at Romelus field, Mich.

Lt. Munchrath Dies in Crash
Had Been Decorated for Overseas Work
2nd Lt. Francis Munchrath, 25, was one of three veteran army fliers killed Friday night in the crash of a cargo plane at Belle center, Ohio, an Associated Press dispatch revealed Saturday.
A wearer of the distinguished flying cross for his 18 months service with the army transport command in the China-Burma-India theater of war, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Munchrath, Star route.
Lt. Munchrath returned to the United States in July and was stationed with the transport command at Romelus field, Mich. The plane, based at Romelus, was en route from Buffalo, N. Y., to Paterson field at Dayton and was within 60 miles of its destination when it crashed, the Associated Press dispatch declared.
Other victims of the crash were Capt. James W. Hartzog, 26, of Lexington, N. C., the pilot; M. Sgt. Jacob Oswalt, 26, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Lt. Munchrath was serving as co-pilot.

Services Wednesday for Lieut. Munchrath
Services for Second Lieut. Francis F. Munchrath, 25, one of three army fliers killed last Friday in a cargo plane crash near Belle Center, O., will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s church, the Rev. Ignatius Stein officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
Lieutenant Munchrath was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Munchrath, Star route.
