Sgt. Metheny Is Killed in Germany
T. Sgt. Hershel A. Metheny, with the infantry in Luxembourg, was killed in action in Germany, Dec. 11.
A veteran of 10 years in the army, he had been stationed at the prisoner of war camp at Fort Crook before going overseas.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Metheny, route 1. T. Sgt. Metheny’s wife, Mrs. Josephine Dickey Metheny, resides in Omaha.
He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Eula Walker in state of Washington, Mrs. Grace James in Idaho, Mrs. Olive McMillen at Friend, Neb., Frances Metheny at home; two brothers, Pfc. Richard Metheny, in the signal corps, and Bearl Metheny, Grand Island, Neb.
Memorial high mass was held at St. Mary’s church, January 11, at 8:30 a. m.

Return War Dead Here for Burial
List Includes Six Pottawattamie Men
Bodies of six Pottawattamie county war dead, four from Council Bluffs and one each from Walnut and Oakland, have been returned to the United States aboard the army transport Carroll Victory from Europe.

T. Sgt. Hershel A. Metheny was killed in action in Germany Dec. 11, 1944. A veteran of 10 years in the army, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Metheny, route 1, Council Bluffs. The body will be shipped to Woodring’s mortuary. Burial will be in Lewis township cemetery.
Survivors are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Grace James of New Plymouth, Idaho, Mrs. Olive McMullen of Friend, Neb., Mrs. Eula Walker of Devils Slide, Utah, and Mrs. Frances Babcock of route 1, Council Bluffs; and two brothers, Richard Metheny and Bearl Metheny, both of Council Bluffs.

Funeral services for T/S Hershel A. Matheny, 33, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Matheny, route 1, will be Sunday at 10:30 a. m. at Woodring’s chapel with burial in Lewis township cemetery. Rainbow post No. 2, American Legion will furnish a military escort and conduct rites at the cemetery. Sgt. Metheny was killed in action in Belgium, Dec. 11, 1944. His body arrived here Saturday.
