WITH COUNTY MEN and WOMEN IN THE U. S. SERVICE

A letter from James K. McElroy, now Pharmacists Mate third class, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. K. McElroy, discloses that his ship participated in the Iwo Jima invasion. He writes in part under date of March 23:
“I’ll drop you a line tonight to try and find out why I haven’t heard from you in a month. I got your Easter card and your box of candy, but no letter with either. Thank you for both.

“My ship was in on the Iwo affair. It was pretty tough there. We were pretty lucky, just a couple of air raids is all we got of it. Our ship acted as a casualty ship and we carried wounded marines away from the island.”
