New Conservation Officer Named
Floyd E. Morley to Succeed Madden

Floyd E. Morley, for the last three years in charge of Leges State park for the Iowa conservation commission, has been transferred to the fish and game division and appointed conservation officer in central western Iowa, the commission announced Tuesday. Morley, whose territory will be Harrison, Pottawattamie and Mills counties, will succeed Kenneth Madden, who has gone into the armed service.

Seriously Ill

Kenneth M. Madden, former state conservation officer for Pottawattamie, Mills and Harrison counties, and now stationed with the army at Camp Croft, S. C., has been seriously ill with spinal meningitis, and was unconscious for two days, it was learned Monday. He is reported improving at the time.

Ken M. Madden Much Better

Pvt. Kenneth M. Madden, former conservation officer for this area, is making a splendid recovery from spinal meningitis at the Camp Croft, S. C. station hospital.

In his latest letter to Mrs. Madden at Glenwood, written Friday, he stated he had been moved out of isolation and into a ward, and was able to spend some time on the sun porch each day. He expected to be hospitalized about one more week at that time.

Doctors have stated he will suffer no ill after effects, since the ailment was checked early.

Report Madden Missing in Action

Pvt. Kenneth M. Madden of Glenwood, game warden for this area on leave of absence and former Council Bluffs resident, is reported as missing in action in Europe as of Dec. 20, according to word received by his wife at Glenwood Friday.

Pvt. Madden was serving with an infantry unit.

Mrs. Madden had received a letter from her husband dated Dec. 19 in which he commented: “Everything is so quiet we wonder if there is a war on.”

Ken Madden Is Free From Nazis

Pvt. Kenneth Madden, former Council Bluffs resident and state game warden for this area, has been liberated from a German prison camp, according to word received by his wife at Glenwood.

Mrs. Madden received two V-mail letters from her husband on Thursday telling of his liberation by American troops. Madden said he has lost considerable weight in the prison camp, but since his release on April 2 had regained much of it.

Madden was captured by the Germans during the “bulge.”

Madden Back in This Country

Pvt. Kenneth M. Madden, formerly of Council Bluffs and state game warden for this area, liberated last month from a German prison camp, arrived Saturday in New York enroute to an army camp and is expected to arrive home soon on furlough, he informed his wife at Glenwood, Ia. Saturday.

Pvt. Madden, reported missing in action during the battle of the Belgium bulge Dec. 20, was later listed a prisoner, but was liberated by American troops on April 2.

In letters to Mrs. Madden, he said he had lost 40 pounds, was evacuated from Germany to France by plane and taken to a hospital for treatment, but is now “feeling fine.”
