KILLED IN FRANCE
Word was received Thursday by Mrs. Jennie Lundeen, 546 8th S. E., that her son, T/4 Gordon Lundeen of the medical corps, wounded in France on June 11, died of his wounds on the same day. Sgt. Lundeen was a graduate of Mason City high school and before he left was employed by the Stoyles Press, Inc. He entered the service in April, 1942, and had been stationed at Camp Barkeley, Texas, Fort Dix, N. J., and in Arizona.
Sgt. Lundeen has one brother, Pfc. Robert C. Lundeen, enroute to his destination. He was preceded in death by his father.

2 Transports Bring Yanks Home to Rest
Two ships returning with World War II dead from Europe and the Pacific are scheduled to arrive this week.
The army transport, Lawrence Victory, carrying the bodies of 4,183 Americans was to dock at the Brooklyn army base Friday. On this ship are 59 Iowans. The dead on this ship were originally interred in temporary military cemeteries at Epinal, St. Mere Eglise, LaCambe and St. Juan, France.
The Cardinal O’Connell, making her second funeral ship voyage, is due Friday at San Francisco with the remains of 2,024 war dead from India, Guadalcanal, Australia, New Zealand, the Central Pacific and the Hawaiian Islands. On this ship are 42 Iowans.

Lundeen Rites on Wednesday
Services to be at Field of Honor
Military services for T/4 Gordon R. Lundeen, who was killed in Normandy, June 11, 1944, will be held at the Field of Honor in Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Alvin N. Rogness, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.
The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet the train at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday at the Milwaukee station, and will have charge of the services at the graveside.
Sgt. Lundeen was born June 22, 1908, in Mason City. He was a graduate of the Mason City high school and was employed at Stoyles Press, Inc., when he entered the service, March 31, 1942.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jennie O. Lundeen, 546 8th S. E. and a brother, Robert C. Lundeen, of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Lundeen.
