T/5 W. E. LOUTHAN SUFFERS WOUNDS
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Louthan of Hospital avenue, received a telegram Monday from the government stating that their son, T-5 Walter E. Louthan, had been wounded in Germany. The Louthan’s had received a letter from their son previous to that, stating the extent of his injuries.
He is with a bomb disposal squadron, and on June 4, he and a buddy were clearing an area when a grenade exploded in the hand of the buddy. T-5 Louthan was hit by pieces of the grenade, and had pieces of metal in his left thigh and his right hip. At the time the letter was written—two days after the accident—he was in a tent hospital near Nuremburg, awaiting an operation. Monday his parents received another letter stating that he had been operated upon and that he was getting along very nicely.
T-5 Louthan has been overseas for one and a half years, and has recently visited several times with his brother, Sgt. Roy Louthan, who is also in Germany.
