Supervisors Grant Law A Leave Of Absence
In a special meeting of the board of supervisors held at the court house last Thursday, Paul G. Law, clerk of courts in Adams county, was unanimously granted a leave of absence from his work, to join the armed forces of the United States. This leave will officially begin at the time Law is inducted into service and will be returned to the work in the clerkâs office, whenever he is discharged from military service, providing his term of office has not expired meanwhile. The Iowa statues make special provision for such leaves of absence for officials who voluntarily or through selective service are inducted into military service.
This statue also provides that the board of supervisors shall appoint a person to serve in the place of any county official given a leave of absence for military duty. This appointment is only for the duration of the leave of absence or until the term of the official expires. Three persons filed applications with the board for the temporary appointment. They were Mrs. Paul Law, Lee [illegible] and O. C. Powelson. When the five members took a vote on the three applications, Powelson received three votes and Mrs. Law received two votes, thus Powelson wins the temporary appointment and will assume the duties of clerk of courts when Law is inducted into the armed forces.
At this time Law does not know when his call to military service will be forthcoming. He has applied for special work with the engineering branch of the army when he is called into service.

Paul Garrett Law was born June 5, 1910 to George H. and Dorothy A. Conner Law. He died May 16, 1975 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Prescott, IA.
Cpl. Law served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
