Pfc. Sam S. LaScala, son of Mrs. Lena LaScala, 1611 Eighth street, is a cook with the 15th field artillery observation battalion with the Fifth army in Italy. This group entered combat near Pietravairano, Italy, in October 1943.

Sam S. LaScala was born Dec. 14, 1917 to Gus and Lena Carnavalli LaScala. He died Oct. 31, 1995 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
