Ireton, Ia.—Bernard Krommendyk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krommendyk, received the purple heart for services in the Army as a paratrooper. In December, 1942, he left for England. On D-day he flew to France and landed with the 101st airborne troops. He remained hidden from the Germans for four days before he was taken captive and placed in a German prison camp. He was liberated April 28, 1945, by the 10th armored division and flown to France from where he came to the United States.
