AWARDED PURPLE HEART
Tec. 5 Elmer Kooistra has been awarded the Purple Heart for activities in campaigns in Germany according to word received here this week from the Public Relations Office of the European Theater of Operations. Elmer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kooistra of Rock Valley and his wife, Leona (nee Engbers) lives in Orange City. He is a truck driver in the Army and was inducted from Grand Rapids, Mich. There is another brother at present in the Service.
No word has been received here that Kooistra was wounded. In fact the card from the Public Relations Office, dated March 3, Washington D.C. is the first word received here about this matter.—O. C. Capital.
