Burton C. Huntley Dies at Sea
Frank L. Huntley, 1042 Columbia street, Saturday received a telegram from the navy department stating that his son, Burton Calvin Huntley, 33, storekeeper third class, who was previously reported missing in action, lost his life as a result of enemy action in the Pacific on Feb. 21. The message was signed by Randall Jacobs, vice admiral, chief navy personal.
Born Jan. 5, 1912, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Huntley, in Waterloo, he moved to Downers Grove, Ill. in 1925. His father returned to Waterloo shortly after [illegible] in 1928.
Ten years ago Burton married Alice Hosgrove of Hinsdale, Ill. Mrs. Huntley now resides at Downers Grove.
He entered service in September, 1942, trained at Farragut, Ida., and was stationed in the paymaster’s officer at Bremerton, Wash., before going to the Pacific in June, 1944.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Helen Parker, 1226 Lafayette street; and six brothers, Spencer, Louisville, Ky., Clyde, 437 Gaole street, Paul, 1042 Columbia, George, Rockford, Ill., Pvt. Harold, in the army in Italy, and Donald, storekeeper second class in Texas.
