Charles J. Howard has been graduated from a basic flying course at Winfield, Kan., it was announced Thursday. Cadet Howard is the son of Mrs. Grace Hardesty Howard, 809 Commercial street.

Killed in Action

2nd Lt. Charles J. Howard of the air force was killed in action while serving as a co-pilot on a B-26 on his 53rd mission over Nuberg, Germany, according to work received by his mother, Mrs. Grace Howard, 809 Commercial street. Mrs. Howard first received word the lieutenant was missing in action on April 26, 1945 and later that he was killed the same date. Lt. Howard entered the army in February, 1943 and had been overseas since December, 1944. He was graduated from St. Francis high school in 1940. He is survived by his mother and three sisters.
