Sgt. Robert Holm of Cedar Falls
Killed in France
Cedar Falls – Sgt. Robert E. Holm, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Holm, 316 East Tenth street, has been reported killed in action in France Oct. 5, according to a telegram received by his parents Sunday from the war department.
A member of the 399th replacement company, infantry, he received his basic training at Camp Wolters, Fort Worth, Tex., and left for overseas duty in June of this year.
Besides his parents and wife, the former Betty Wise, he is survived by a brother, Lt. Sterling Holm, in England, and a sister, Marjorie, at home; also his maternal grandfather, Julius Jensen, Cedar Falls.
He was born in Cedar Falls, Oct. 12, 1924, and following his graduation from high school was employed at the Rath Packing Co., Waterloo. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church.

Sgt. Robert Holm Memorial Service
to Be Held Sunday
Cedar Falls – A memorial service will be held for Sgt. Robert Eugene Holm, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Holm 316 E. 10th street, Cedar Falls at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the Calvary Baptist church.
Rev. Joseph Clark Dana and the American Legion will assist Rev. V. A. Clocksin in this service. Prof. James De Jonge will be the soloist, and C. C. Stanard, principal of the Cedar Falls high school, will present the gold star.
Members of the American Legion and auxiliary and of the United Service Women will attend in a body.

Sgt. R. E. Holm’s Body
is Coming Back for Reburial
Cedar Falls – The body of Sgt. Robert E. Holm, who met death in action somewhere in France, will arrive in Cedar Falls for reburial late next Tuesday, according to word received Friday by Mr. and Mrs. George Holm, 316 East Tenth street, parents of the deceased soldier.
The body will be taken to the Jungkunz-Nelson funeral home.
Young Holm was just 19 at the time of his death in action. He had been in the service two years but had been overseas only about four months in Gen. George Patton’s famous Third army when he was fatally wounded during a hotly contested advance.
He was killed Oct. 5, 1944.

Robert E. Holm Rites
Saturday at Cedar Falls
Cedar Falls – Funeral arrangements for the reburial here of the body of Sgt. Robert D. Holm, who met death in action with Gen. George Patton’s famous Third army, were completed Monday.
The service will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Jungkunz-Nelson funeral home, conducted by Rev. V. A. Clocksin. The American Legion will have charge of the military service in connection, it was announced.
Sergeant Holm was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Holm, 316 East 10h street.

Saturday at Cedar Falls
Cedar Falls – Final rites for Sgt. Robert E. Holm, Cedar Falls boy who met death in action with Gen. George Patton’s Third army Oct. 4, 1944, will be at Jungkunz-Nelson funeral home at 2 p. m. Saturday.
Sergeant Holm, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Holm, 316 East Tenth street, enlisted in the army May 17, 1943, and went overseas July 19, 1944, where he met his death about three months later. He was awarded the Purple Heart and received a Presidential citation.
He is survived by his widow, the former Betty Wise, and a young son, in addition to his parents, a brother, Sterling, 1021 West Third street, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Morris, Waterloo.
Military services will be in charge of the local American Legion post. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
