Killed While Returning to U. S.
Sgt. Sherwin Hanson, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Hanson, 40 Rainbow drive, was killed in an army truck collision in Germany, Sept. 5, while preparing for return to the United States, according to a war department telegram received Wednesday by his wife, Lucille, who lives with her mother, Mrs. Minnie Schwerin, 1316 Forest avenue.
The soldier, a member of the 113th radio intelligence corps, was en route to Stuttgart, Germany, with a load of equipment in preparation for movement to France, from which he was scheduled to sail for home Friday. No other details of the accident were given.
He was born May 21, 1921, in Austin, Minn., a son of Louis and Selma Hanson. Coming to Waterloo in 1929, he was graduated from West high school in 1938. On Nov. 1943, he married Lucille Schwerin in Hollywood, Fla.
Formerly a fireman for Illinois Central railroad, Hanson entered service in August, 1942, and went overseas in December, 1943.
Sergeant Hanson was a member of American Trinity Lutheran church.
Surviving are his wife, his parents and three sisters, Mrs. A. James Ebel, Champagne, Ill.; Mrs. Dorothy Buch, 40 Rainbow drive; and Mrs. Marjorie Corbin, 522 Denver street.

Hanson Memorial Sunday
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in Trinity Lutheran church for Sgt. Sherwin Hanson, 24, who was killed in an army truck collision in Germany Sept. 5 while preparing for return to the United States.
Rev. G. E. Melchert, pastor, will officiate at the services.
Sergeant Hanson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Hanson, live at 40 Rainbow drive, and his wife, Lucille, lives with her mother, Mrs. Minnie Schwerin, 1316 Forest avenue.

Sherwin Louis Hanson was born May 21, 1921 to Louis O. and Selma Larson Hanson. He died Sept. 5, 1945 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint Avold, France. He was initially buried in Prag Cemetery in Pragfriedhof, Germany.
Sgt. Hanson served in World War II with the U.S. Army 113th Signal Company. He was killed in a vehicle accident in Germany when thrown from the rear of a 2-1/2 ton truck while returning to his unit.
