WAR TAKES 2ND SON IN FAMILY
Pvt. Earl Gallup Dies in Action in France
Nora Springs – Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Gallup of Nora Springs received official notification this week that their son, Pvt. Earl Gallup, 21, had been killed in action in France, July 23.
This is the 2nd time within 10 months that a death message from the war department has been delivered to the Gallup home, their son, Lloyd Gallup having met his death on the battlefields of Italy Oct. 14, 1943.
Three other sons are in the service: Pfc. Lynn Gallup is now a patient in a hospital somewhere in England; Cpl. Glen Gallup is stationed at Camp Campbell, Ky.; and Pvt. Harold Gallup left here Monday for Fort George Meade, Md., following a furlough. He had just completed his basic training at South Camp Hood, Texas. Another son, Leroy, is still at home.
Earl Gallup was born Aug. 26, 1923. He entered the armed forces Dec. 18, 1943, and had been in uniform only 7 months at the time of his death. He took his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and was at home on furlough in May, leaving the states early in June for overseas duty.
The survivors are his parents; 6 sisters, Mr. John Keith, Mrs. D. L. Billings, Mrs. Roy Wilson and Mrs. George Wilson, all of Nora Springs; Mrs. Henry Steepleton of Mason City and Mrs. Justus Borchers of Chico, Cal.; and 4 brothers, Pvt. Harold, Pfc. Lynn, Cpl. Glen and Leroy. [His brother Pfc. Robert L. Gallup was killed in action November 23, 1944, in Germany.

Earl Blair Gallup was born Aug. 26, 1923 to Charles Floyd and Helen Belle Benedict Gallup. He died July 23, 1944 and is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
Pvt. Gallup served in World War II with the U.S. Army 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division and was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
