Andrew Fry Declared Dead
Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fry, 2829 East Fourth street, who was previously reported missing in action since the fall of Corregidor on May 7, 1942, has been declared dead, according to a war department telegram received here yesterday by his parents.
The telegram stated that Sergeant Fry had died of dysentery June 16, 1942, in the Philippines, where he is buried.
Sergeant Fry entered service in Sept., 1939, and was graduated from a technical school at Lowry Field, Colo. He was transferred overseas with the air corps in 1941, a month before the Pearl Harbor attack. A graduate of East high school, he attended St. Mary’s parochial school until his senior year. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church.
Surviving are the parents, two brothers, Pvt. Carl Fry, who recently returned from action with the 34th division in Italy and is now stationed at Lemore Field, Cal., and Tommy at home, two sisters, Claire Fry, Des Moines, and Kathleen, at home; and the parental grandmother, Mrs. Mahala Fry, Skedee, Olka.
A brother, Jack Fry, died Aug. 1, 1942.

Andrew Fry Memorial Monday at St. Mary’s
Memorial services for Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, who two weeks ago was declared dead after being reported missing in action since the fall of Corregidor on May 7, 1942, will be at 9 a. m. Monday in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Rev. Fr. Raphael Grahl will celebrate solemn requiem high mass.
A telegram was received by Sergeant Fry’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fry, 2829 East Fourth street, stating that he had died of dysentery June 16, 1942, in the Philippines.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fry, 2829 East Fourth street, learned recently from an army officer that their son, Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, Jr., who died of dysentery June 16, 1942, at Bataan, is buried at Camp Olivias, San Fernado, Pamyanga in the Philippines. Sergeant Fry had served in the army air corps since September, 1939. A brother, Pvt. Carl Fry, is stationed at Muroc, Cal.

Mother Receives War Decorations
of Dead Soldier
The Purple Heart and other decorations, posthumously awarded to Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, were presented to his mother, Mrs. Andrew J. Fry, 2829 East Fourth street, it was announced yesterday by Lt. Warren Rand, United States Army recruiting officer.
Sgt. Fry, who fought in the Philippine islands, was wounded Jan. 24, 1942, according to the citation.
He arrived in the Philippines Dec. 1, 1941, participated in the infamous Bataan death march, and is believed to have died of dysentery June 16, 1942.
Included in the list of decorations were the American defense service medal with bronze star, Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with bronze star, service star for Philippine islands, campaign, World War II victory ribbon, and distinguished badge with two oak leaf clusters.

Fry Service Saturday
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a. m. at St. Mary’s church for Staff Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew A. Fry, 2829 East Fourth street. The body arrived Monday and is at O’Keefe & Towne funeral home.
Rev. Fr. Raphael Graehl will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Staff Sgt. Fry died June 16, 1942, in the Philippine islands as he participated in the Bataan death march. He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Waterloo. He attended St. Mary’s school and was graduated from East high school.
He enlisted in the service in September, 1939, and went overseas in November, 1941. He was wounded in January, 1942, and was released from an army hospital in March of the same year. He was a member of the 21st pursuit squadron when he died.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Carl, San Francisco, Cal., who escorted the body from California, Charles, 215 East Ninth street, two sisters, Mrs. Ray Ehlers, Terre Haute, Ind., and Kathleen, a student at Rosary college, River Forest, Ill.
Another brother, Jack, died Aug. 3, 1942.

Rosary services will be conducted at 8 p. m. at the Andrew A. Fry home, 2829 East Fourth street, for Staff Sgt. Andrew J. Fry, 21, who died June 16, 1942 in the Philippine Islands. The body will be moved from O’Keefe & Towne funeral home Friday at 4 p. m.
