Owen H. Faurot

 

Serves as Sky Sailor in Europe

Owen H. Faurot, 20, 256 Vine street, is serving as a “skygoing sailor with a navy patrol unit operating from a naval air base in England over the bay of Biscay in search of enemy shipping and submarines” with two other Iowa flyers, it was announced Monday.

He has three brothers in the armed forces and is serving as an aviation radioman 2/c, maintaining communication between his Liberator bomber and the base, according to the announcement. He has been in the navy since November, 1941, and has served in aviation units throughout his service.

The other Iowans listed by the public relations office connected with the air base are William J. Clayton, of Humboldt, who serves as an aviation ordnanceman 3/c; and W. Raven of Webster City.

Funeral Held on Anniversary of Enlistment

Three years to the day after he was enlisted in the naval air force, funeral services will be held here in Cutler’s chapel Friday at 2 p. m. for Aviation Radio Man 1/c Owen H. Faurot.

Accompanied by an escort, the body of ARM1/c Owen H. Faurot, 21, will arrive in Council Bluffs Friday.

Faurot, who was enlisted here Nov. 17, 1941, was killed in a ferry transport crash off Old Point Comfort, Norfolk, Va., Nov. 7, 1944.

Since May, 1940, he had made his home with a sister, Mrs. James H. Hessenflow, 253 Vine street. He came to Council Bluffs from Faulkton, S. D., in May, 1940, and waas graduated from Abraham Lincoln high school. He enlisted in the navy Nov. 17, 1941

The Rev. E. F. Hammond of North Presbyterian church, Omaha, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Council Bluffs.
