Men in Service

Robert L. Hammond, son of Mrs. E.A. Hammond, 3128 Fourth Avenue, and Robert W. Essig, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Essig, 2350 Nash Street have arrived at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. for army air force instructions prior to appointment as aviation cadets in the army air force.

Five Sioux Cityans were among the men commissioned second lieutenants And who were graduated recently as 11 southwest advanced flying schools for pilots of the A.A.F. training command.

The Sioux Cityans, their addresses and the field where they were trained are Robert W. Essig, 2350 Nash Street, Ellington field, Texas; Orville K. Goodier, 3511 Garretson Avenue, Blackland; Harry L. McGraw, 1845 S. Cedar Street, Lubbockfield, Texas; Donald W. Schoen, 2359 Decotah Street, Fosterfield, Texas and Lloyd E. Sease, 406 S. Helen Street, Moorefield, Texas.

In Uniform

Second Lieut. Robert W. Essig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thearl Essig, 2325 Nash Street, was graduated this week as a B-24 bomber pilot at the Fort Worth, Texas airfield. Lieut. Essig received previous flight training at Stamford, Perrin field and Ellington field, Texas and was commissioned last April. Following his graduation he will receive either an assignment as a flight instructor or be sent to a tactical school for final phases of pre-combat training.
