Richard Eastman of Cedar Falls
Is Killed in Belgium
Cedar Falls – Word has been received by George Eastman, 109 Walnut street, from the war department that his son, Pfc. John Richard Eastman, had been killed in action in Belgium on Jan. 15. Inducted in April, 1944, he had served overseas with the infantry since November, 1944.
Born Feb. 18, 1926, in Waterloo, he received his early education in Cedar Falls. His mother died just previous to his enlistment, April 6, 1944.
Survivors include his father and seven brothers and sisters, Gertrude, Shirley, Paul and Dorothy, living at home; Mrs. V. O. Wood, 409 Dawson street, Waterloo; Kenneth, 822 Fourth avenue, Cedar Falls; and Edgar, with the military police, Hawaii.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Three Bodies of War Dead Due Today
The bodies of three Waterloo boys will be among the 15 northeast Iowa veterans aboard the United States army transport Robert Burns which is scheduled to dock at New York City today, it was learned here yesterday.
The Waterloo veterans are Pvt. Clifford A. Flanders, Pfc. Clem Stocks and Tec 5 Calvin C. Brandenburg.
The majority of these dead are being returned from Henri Chapelle military cemetery at Eupen, Belgium. Some are from the cemetery at St. Laurent-sur-Mer, 10 miles west of Bayeux, France. Included in the group are many men who fell on the furious D-Day assault on Omaha beach.
The dead will be buried in private or national cemeteries according to the wishes of next-of-kin.
Northeast Iowans include Pfc. John R. Eastman, next of kin George F. Eastman of 109 Walnut street, Cedar Falls.

John R. Eastman’s Body Coming Home
Cedar Falls – Notification was received here Monday that the body of Pfc. John R. Eastman, who died in action overseas and is being brought here for burial, will arrive in Cedar Falls shortly after 9 a. m. Thursday and be taken to the Dahl funeral home. Funeral arrangements will be completed in the meantime. The deceased youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Eastman, 109 Walnut street.

Pfc. John Eastman’s Funeral Saturday
Cedar Falls – Funeral services for Pfc. John R. Eastman, whose body returned from a European cemetery, will reach here Thursday, will be at the Dahl funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday, according to arrangements completed late Tuesday. The local American Legion post will have charge of the military services and burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, it was stated.
