Sgt. Melvin Dowdy, 20, Overseas for Year with Infantry
Sgt. Melvin Dowdy, 20-year-old infantryman, is missing in action as of December 20, his wife, June, 2100 Dewey Street, was informed by the War Department. He has been overseas about a year.
The Sioux Cityan entered the service about three years ago and at one time was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C. Besides the wife, the sergeant has a son, Daniel and a daughter, Diana. Mrs. Dowdy is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Green, 2210 Nash Street.
The sergeant is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dowdy, also of Sioux City.

Sgt. Dowdy Nazi Prisoner; First Listed Missing
Sgt. Melvin Dowdy, missing in action since December 20, 1944, has been reported a German prisoner of war, according to a telegram received by his wife, June, from the War Department.
Sgt. Dowdy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dowdy of Portland, Ore., entered the army March 3, 1943, and was sent overseas last May. He was formerly employed by the Ideal Cab company. Sgt. and Mrs. Dowdy are the parents of two children, Danny and Diana.
