Pfc. Edwin W. Dix was awarded the Purple Heart for back and leg burns received from a phosphorous grenade while in action on the Philippines sometime during February, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Dix, 207 East Second street.
Private Dix, who has been serving overseas for the past six months, was previously stationed on New Guinea. Before entering service in February, 1943, he was employed by the John Deere Tractor Co.
A brother, Marine Pfc. Harold H. Dix, is with the Third marine division in the south Pacific area.
