PROMOTION
Word has been received of the promotion of Charles Dean Deputy to private first class somewhere in the southwest Pacific where he is stationed with the marine corps. Pfc. Deputy, son of David Deputy and the grand son of Mrs. Lillie M. Deputy, both of Route 4, attended Abraham Lincoln high school prior to enlisting in the marine corps in March,
1944.

Ex-Local School Pupil Is Wounded
Pfc. Charles D. Deputy, 19, member of the United States marines, was wounded Feb. 24 in the battle on Iwo Jima, the war department Tuesday afternoon advised his father, David F. Deputy, and grandmother, Mrs. Lillie M. Deputy, who live on route 3, Council Bluffs, near Glendale Acres.
He was in his fourth yea at Abraham Lincoln high school when he enlisted in the marine corps on his 18th birthday, Jan. 15, 1944, went into service on March 15, 1944, and the following July went overseas.

PVT. CHAS. DEPUTY REPORTED KILLED
Pfc. Charles Dean Deputy, 19, has been reported killed in action Feb. 24 on Iwo Jima while serving with the marines, according to word received by his father, David F. Deputy, and his grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Deputy, Rout 4. Prior to his induction in March, 1944, he attended Abraham Lincoln high school. Pfc. Deputy went overseas in July.
Besides his father and grandmother he is survived by three brothers, Harvey, Raymond and Donald Deputy, all at home; and four sisters, Mrs. Ray Graves of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Wallace Bittick of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Dewey Ross of Sidney, Neb., and Miss Erma Deputy at home.

Plans Memorial
Memorial services for Pfc. Charles Deputy, son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Deputy, route 4, will be held Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Glendale Presbyterian church. Pfc. Deputy was killed on Iwo Jima.
