JAMES DENNY IS KILLED IN ACTION

Brought Down Over Germany.
Cedar Falls – Sgt. James Ross Denny, 19, son of Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Denny, 1215 West 23rd street, Cedar Falls, was killed in action over Nurnburg, Germany, his parents have been notified in a telegram from the war department.
The war department had been notified by the German government through the International Red Cross. Sergeant Denny, armorer and tail gunner on a B-17 attached to the Eighth air force, had previously been reported missing in action.
He was born Feb. 18, 1925, at Cedar Falls, and was graduated from Campus high school, and from Iowa State Teachers college in 1943. He participated in high school football, basketball and golf.
James was inducted into the army air forces Aug. 9, 1943, and received training at Amarillo, Tex., Lowry field, Denver, Colo., Las Vegas, Nev., and Rapid City, S. D. He went overseas to England, Aug. 10., 1944. He was killed when his plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire.
His father is head of the department of education at Teachers college.
Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Lois Denny, dietitian at City hospital, Indianapolis, Ind., and a brother, Pfc. John B. Denny, in the anti-aircraft artillery in France.

James R. Denny Reburial Service
To Be Wednesday
Cedar Falls – The body of Sgt. James R. Denny, who was killed in action Sept. 10, 1944, at Nuernberg, Germany, will arrive here late Tuesday for reburial, according to a message received by the Dhal Funeral home, where a service will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, conducted by Dr. H. D. Temple.
There will also be a military service in charge of the local Amvets post, including color guard and firing squad. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
Sergeant Denny trained with the Eighth Air force in England and was a gunner on a B-17 when it was shot down over Germany. He was 19 and had been in the service about one year. He enlisted just after graduating from high school.
He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Denny, 1215 West Twenty-third street. Dr. Denny is the head of the education department at ISTC.
Besides his parents, Sergeant Denny is survived by a sister and a brother. They are Miss Lois Denny, a graduate of ISTC, and now dietitian in the General hospital at Cincinnati, O., and John Denny, now an instructor in East Junior High school in Waterloo.
He, too, participated in World war II, seeing three years of service with the 12th Armored division. He was discharged from the service in 1946.
