News of Louisa Men In Service Is Reported
Columbus Junction—Mr. and Mrs. J. Newton Davis of the Welsh Neighborhood recently received a letter from their son, Carroll Davis, which he had written from somewhere in England. He said the Louisa county boys who left Columbus Junction May 9, were still together.

Battle Casualties Sadden More Homes
CARROLL DAVIS—Son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Davis, who reside on a farm near Columbus Junction, Carroll Davis, was killed in action in Italy in May, a message to his parents revealed. He was one of the first of the Columbus Junction community to go overseas.

Carroll Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Davis, of Columbus Junction, was killed in action in 1944 in the Italian theater.

Hugh Carroll Davis was born Oct. 26, 1917 to John N. “Newton” and Anna Elizabeth Evans Davis. He died Apr. 12, 1944 and is buried in Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy and is memorialized in Cambrian Cemetery, Columbus Junction, IA. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
