SIOUX CITYAN ARRIVE AT TRAINING STATION  

Two Sioux Cityans who enlisted in the U. S. naval forces arrived at the Great Lakes Naval Training station this week for preliminary training.  They are Carl Edwin Carlson, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Carlson, 1409 Dale, and William Joseph Coughlin, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coughlin, 3805 Myrtle.  They are in general service and patternmaker, respectively.

NAVY SCHOOL GRADUATES

Three former residents of Sioux City have completed 16-week courses at the Navy service schools at Great Lakes, Ill.  The names of the graduates are: Charles E. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor, 722 Clark street, who graduated from the school for quartermasters-signalmen;  William J. Coughlin, 2805 Myrtle street, who also graduated from the school for quartermasters-signalmen; and Carl M. Nelson, husband of Mrs. Dorothy Nelson of 1506 Pierce street, who graduated from the school for yeomen.

COMPLETE NAVY COURSE
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coughlin, 2805 Myrtle street, have received word that their son William Joseph has completed the prescribed course of study at the class A service school, Great Lakes naval training station, in the quartermaster and signalman group.  William is a nephew of Mrs. Letitia Cornalla, 2805 Myrtle street.

William Coughlin, petty officer second class and a signalman in the communications department of the Navy, is spending a 20-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coughlin, 2805 Myrtle street.  He recently returned from the south Atlantic where he was stationed while hunting submarines.  Petty Officer Coughlin enlisted before Pearl Harbor and was stationed in Cuba for one year.  He is a graduate of Trinity high school.

QUINLAN-COUGHLIN
The engagement of Miss Eileen V. Quinlan and William Joseph Coughlin, petty officer second class, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Coughlin, 2805 Myrtle street, is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Quinlan of North Bergen, N.J.

Miss Quinlan was graduated from St. Michael’s high school, Union City, N. J., and Eagan’s Secretarial school.  At present she is working in New York City.  Her fiancé, a graduate of Trinity high school, is in San Diego where he is awaiting assignment.  In the service three and one-half years, he served 35 months in the Caribbean area, having been based at Cuba, Trinidad and Brazil.
