Howard Coover was born 9 June 1917 in Holly Springs, Iowa. He married Frances George on March 3, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. They had two children, Thomas F Coover and Mary Ann Gomez.
He enlisted 4 August 1941 in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged 14 November 1945 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Ribbons and Medals he received : Lapel Button, American Theatre Ribbon, Camp Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Leyte, WWII Victory Medal, 4 Overseas. He was sent overseas 12 September 1943 and returned 4 November 1945. He was a supply truck driver during the bombing in London.
He was with the 609th ordance base armament maintenance battalion in England that was awarded the meritorious service unit plague for superior performance of duty during the preparatory phase of the invasion of western Europe and the buildup following D-day.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 64. He was a transport driver for the Abu Bekr Shrine White Horse Mounted Patrol for the appearance at the presidential inaugurations and the annual Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California.
He was employed as a diesel mechanic for several trucking companies. He retired in 1988 from Condon Motors in Sioux City.
Howard died 4 July 2002 and is buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.
