RECEIVES FRENCH WATCH FROM SON
Albert Carpenter recently received a French watch from his son, Sgt. Gordon Carpenter, who is serving in France. The watch is open faced with the dial in the upper part of the face of the watch and in the lower half part of the works are visible underneath the crystal. Sgt. Carpenter secured the watch in Sardinia. The watch is of silver.

MAKE TRIP HOME ON LINER EUROPA
Sgt. Gordon Carpenter and Corp. Floyd Nelson, both of Hawarden, returned to the states last week from England on the Europa with a large number of troops. Neither knew that the other had been on the ship until they arrived in this country.
Sgt. Carpenter spent 27 months overseas and served in Africa, Tunisia, Corsica, France and Austria. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Carpenter, of Hawarden. Sgt. Carpenter has eight battle stars on his service ribbon, two presidential citations, two French citations, an Oak Leaf Cluster and the good conduct ribbon.
Corp. Nelson served 29 months overseas with a bombing squadron stationed in England. During the past year and a half, he was engaged in barbering, the trade he followed before he entered the Army. His wife has made her home with her father, L. D. Dickinson, while he was in the service.

Gordon Albert Carpenter was born Dec. 24, 1916 to Albert B. and Ester Luella Finch Carpenter. He died Dec. 13, 2003 and is buried in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, IA.
Sgt. Carpenter served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
