SIOUX CITYAN ARRIVE AT TRAINING STATION
Two Sioux Cityans who enlisted in the U. S. naval forces arrived at the Great Lakes Naval Training station this week for preliminary training. They are Carl Edwin Carlson, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Carlson, 1409 Dale, and William Joseph Coughlin, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coughlin, 3805 Myrtle. They are in general service and patternmaker, respectively.

Men and Women In Service
Seaman First Class Carl E. Carlson is in Sioux City on his first leave since entering the navy more than two years ago. He is wearing four stars for four major battles in which he has participated, including Tarawa, Enwetok, Kwajalein and the Marshalls. He is visiting his sister, Mrs. John Mozak, 1409 Dale Street and will visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carlson, now in Kansas City. Seaman Carlson attended Central High School.

Carl Edwin Carlson was born Oct. 31, 1923 to Emil Theodore and Edith Carlson. He died Nov. 27, 1944 and is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA.
Petty Officer Carlson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Colorado (BB-45) and was KIA at sea in the Asiatic area while in the line of duty.
